LE RENABLE

Le Rénable is a made-up name, formed from le renard (fox) and le retable (altarpiece). It suggests both the sly, watchful presence of the fox in Tatar folklore and the devotional stillness of religious icon panels — merging the sacred and the mythical into one visual field.

This series transports viewers into the enchanted world of fairy tales, oral legends, and symbolic narratives drawn from the culturally rich region of Tatarstan and Russia. It weaves together familiar folkloric figures, fragments of local beliefs, and scenes that echo timeless religious imagery. All rendered through an intentionally simplified visual language, reminiscent of medieval icon painting.

Behind the charm and silence of these works lies a quiet tension — a response to stories and fragments of reality that emerged from the artist’s homeland during a time of upheaval. Without directly naming, the series reflects on injustice, distortion, and the sense of helplessness that followed.

The use of tempera (a medium deeply rooted in ancient traditions) reinforces the feeling of time suspended. The works do not aim to reconstruct history, but to hold onto it: through emblematic poses, worn surfaces, and a deliberate refusal of spectacle.

Le Rénable becomes a fictional altar — a space where the magical, the personal, and the sacred coexist.
